the farm
Furnace Creek Farm began out of a need to maintain health for modern life.
Located in the historic agricultural community of the Oley Valley, in Pennsylvania. The diverse habitat of the farm lends itself to growing medicinal and culinary herbs native to the East Coast and from regions around the world.
We grow the majority of our herbs from seed or by propagation from mother plants to ensure crop continuity. We are growing for the purpose of therapeutic herbal remedies and therefore do not use chemicals, GMO seed, or adverse inputs of any kind. As stewards of this land we intend to nurture the soil for generations to come.
The herbs we grow have been selected for their medicinal effect and flavor. We work at the intersection of food and medicine to create therapeutic tisane, vinegar, elixirs, and tonics that support well-being and are also an enjoyable part of your day in beverages and meals.
experience the power of plants
When we engage with nature using our senses to touch, taste, smell, see, and hear a plant we connect on a deep primal level. This is how our bodies were built, foraging plants from our natural environment for food and medicinals. Originally we maintained ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually using plants. Our cells and neural networks instinctually and efficiently know what to do with the micronutrients and phytochemicals found in plants, as this information is embedded in our DNA.
Fresh local plants will naturally guide us through the seasons; our constitution is strengthened and our vital force brings forth mental and physical resiliency. Upon this foundation our immune systems are functioning at their best levels and our ability to cope with modern day pressures is enhanced.
The comfort and ease we feel when visiting nature is also experienced when using fresh plants in our meals, beverages, and surroundings. As an act of self-care, preparing fresh herbs for safe keeping is a link to our ancestral past that is grounding, strengthening, and heart opening.
Working with fresh herbs is a transformative experience, one that allows us to engage with nature and cultural traditions that have sustained humanity for thousands of years.
OUR FOUNDER, GRACE GALANTI
GRACE GALANTI is an herbalist, farmer, and natural product formulator. Her early childhood experience of growing up in nature along with later naturopathic study of herbs fostered a unique vitalist perspective in her practice of herbal medicine. Grace's down to earth approach to herbalism arrives at the core essence of plant medicine, furthering one's own path of exploration for health and well-being.
Grace grew up on a small self-sustainable farm in Pennsylvania and was Montessori educated through the sixth grade. Her travels as an exchange student in Brazil and throughout Europe had a significant impact on the cultural associations she uses to create plant remedies. Grace graduated from Bastyr University with a Bachelor of Science in Herbal Sciences, 2003, and has honed her craft through botanical perfumery with Mandy Aftel. She later practiced as a certified Dr. Hasuchka skin care specialist where she integrated healing teas to improve skin conditions with clients.
Grace continues to find her herbal foundation in the traditonal use of plants while seeking scientific validaton for the basis of plant healing properties. Grace can be found at her New York City farmers' markets and now shares these life experiences through educational programming in the farm CSA and subscripton memberships.
